Winemaker: Ben Tombs
Sourced from one of our earliest-ripening parcels within our Gimblett Gravels vineyard, closest to the Ngaruroro River, Block 8 Syrah originates from some of our original estate plantings. It’s typically destined for our Prestige Syrah, Le Sol. The fruit was hand harvested on the 28 March 2024, with 100% whole-bunch inclusion, and fermented in a concrete tank before extended maturation in neutral French oak barrique for 28 months.
This Syrah captures a highly concentrated component of Le Sol, exhibiting layered dark fruit intensity with riper, savoury layers. It has a structural component that is always vibrant, with fine tannins and a distinctly energetic, persistent finish. A rare, site-expressive cuvée from this exceptional block, crafted exclusively for the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction.
